Eighth Circuit Recent Decisions
Hooper v. Advance America, Cash Advance Centers of Missouri, Inc., No. 08-3252 (8th Cir. Dec. 16, 2009)
In this case, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the order of a district court denying arbitration, holding that the defendant in the case had waived its right to insist on arbitration by filing an extensive motion to dismiss prior to moving to compel arbitration.

Department energy plan receives green grade
On May 28, 2009, Governor Mike Beebe issued Executive Order 09-07 which encourages the reduction of energy consumption by state agencies and asks for an assessment of the environmental impact of state agency operations. The Executive Order directed each state agency to begin the development of a Strategic Energy Plan or StEP with twin goals. The first is to reduce each agency’s annual maintenance and operating budget devoted to energy consumption. The second is to promote agency operations and practices that will reduce, to the extent practicable, the environmental impact of the agency’s operation.

The decade that began on Jan. 1, 2000, ended last night at midnight. Was Y2K really 10 years ago?
Kathy and I were in Dallas that week, with my brother and his wife, to watch Arkansas play Texas. It was a beautiful cold, clear morning at the 64th Cotton Bowl Classic between two old rivals who hadn’t seen each other since 1991, back in Austin, when the Hogs bid farewell to the Horns and the rest of the Southwest Conference with a 14-13 victory.
Kay's Cooking Corner
Gruyere cheese is wonderful! It is firm in texture, mild in taste and is great for cooking! Gruyere can usually be substituted for Swiss cheese in most recipes where it will add a rich, nutty flavor. I’ll give a recipe below, but first, a little history.

Curry legend grows
The squib in the Nov. 26, 2008, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette read:
“No. 24 Davidson 78, Loyola, Md. 48. … Stephen Curry, the nation’s leading scorer at 35 points a game, went scoreless and attempted only three shots because of constant double teams …, but Davidson (5-1) still beat Loyola of Maryland (2-4) ….”
