Seeking solutions for auto insurance consumers

By Allen Kerr

Last week, I wrote about the annual reorganization the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) goes through to set new leadership for the next 12 months. As part of this reorganization, many new chairmen and vice-chairmen rise to new positions on committees, task forces, and working groups.

Earlier this week, I learned that will serve as Chairman of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ (NAIC) Auto Insurance (C/D) Working Group for 2017. I am very grateful to my fellow state insurance commissioners for granting me the honor of serving as chairman to this important panel that works for auto insurance consumers across the country.

The Auto Insurance (C/D) Working Group of the Property and Casualty Insurance (C) Committee and the Market Regulation and Consumer Affairs (D) Committee reviews issues relating to low-income households and the auto insurance marketplace; making recommendations, as appropriate. The Group will also consider the collection of data to evaluate the availability and affordability of auto insurance.

As I have written before here, Arkansas consumers pay some of the lowest auto insurance rates among our bordering states. I am looking forward to heading this working group as we seek to increase availability and affordability solutions for consumers in 2017.

It is my pleasure to continue to serve you as your Insurance Commissioner.
