Consumer services recovers over $3.1M for Arkansans

By Allen Kerr

This week I am proud to write about the great work that is continually delivered by one of our divisions that is on the front line protecting Arkansas insurance consumers.

The Consumer Services Division at AID is comprised of a dozen professionals who assist insurance consumers with complaints and inquiries regarding insurance companies, producers, and adjusters. The division investigates all complaints, working with the insurance company and the consumer to determine the appropriate course of action. Our CSD team travels statewide to provide educational information and materials and, in the event of significant storm damage, travels to damaged areas to assist homeowners with filing claims and procuring emergency living expenses.

I am proud to report that in 2016, CSD recovered $3,115,591 for Arkansans—the second straight year exceeding $3 million during my term. The women and men working in Consumer Services received 2,473 consumer complaints last year, and closed 2,231 cases. Recoveries are dollar amounts recovered for Arkansas consumers by CSD in excess of the amounts initially offered by insurance companies.

Consumer protection is a pillar of the work we do at the Arkansas Insurance Department. I am proud of the hard work by our professional staff in our Consumer Services Division who work on behalf of hardworking Arkansans everyday.
