Bridge, anyone?

August 7-13, 2017

It’s a game that trumps all others – Duplicate Bridge!  The Little Rock Duplicate Bridge Club and The Bridge House invite everyone to an Open House (think cocktail party with hors d’ oeuvres) on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m., at 7415 Indiana Avenue in Little Rock, a beautiful facility dedicated solely to bridge education and playing bridge.

But, you say, “I don’t know how to play” or “I haven’t played bridge in 30 years.” Not to worry. Whether you are new to the game of bridge or new to duplicate, you will find an array of lessons for players of all levels. The Little Rock Duplicate Bridge Club hosts 14 games each week, morning, afternoon and evening, to accommodate the schedules of the most active persons.

Free introductory bridge lessons will be offered on Sept. 5 and 7, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., and again on Sept. 6 and 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. No reservation or partner is needed. Beginning the week of Sept. 11, The Bridge House will kick-off its fall education schedule with seven fundamental and intermediate classes and two classes for the more experienced bridge players.

Duplicate Bridge is a terrific way to socialize and make new friends. Your first club game is like the first day of school. You walk through the door and find an amazing group of bridge players asking about each other’s families and work, chatting about hands, and sharing tournament results.  It’s a club!  And it’s just a matter of time before these are your friends as well. Where else can you get a morning, afternoon or evening of camaraderie and mental stimulation for a mere $5?

Of course readers of the Daily Record probably already know the benefits of exercising the brain because they read a lot.  Bridge players are readers, too, and the Little Rock Duplicate Bridge Club has one of the largest collections of bridge books in Arkansas. You will also enjoy our state-of-the-art bridge facility where all hands are dealt automatically and the scoring is completely computerized. Results are posted after every game on our website: bridgewebs.com/littlerock.

So, what are you waiting for? Add these dates to your calendar:  Open House at The Bridge House, Wednesday, Aug. 30, 4 to 7 p.m., free introductory classes on Sept. 5, 6 and 7, and bridge lessons for anyone and everyone beginning Sept. 11. But watch out – duplicate bridge is addictive and you will quickly develop a passion for a game that never gets old, even if we sometimes do.
