MacArthur Park Little Rock’s 1st Historic District featured in Quapaw Quarter Association 55th Annual Spring Tour of Homes

The Quapaw Quarter Association (QQA) will host its 55th Spring Tour on Mother’s Day weekend, May 11- 12. This year, the tour will explore the MacArthur Park Historic District, six homes for the afternoon tour and an additional home for the Candlelight Tour on Saturday night. Tour hours are 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $20, or on site the day of for $30. Children 10 and under are free. Tickets are on sale now at Quapaw.com.
The QQA’s Spring Tour of Homes began in 1963. In 2014 was the recipient of the Grand Old Classic Special Event Award at the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism’s Henry Awards. Shalah Brummett is chairing this year’s tour.
“The QQA is thrilled to have Shalah as our 2019 Tour Chair,” said Board President Ashli Ahrens. “Shalah has chaired or co-chaired two other tours and previously served on the QQA Board of Directors. Shalah has an intimate knowledge of the MacArthur Park neighborhood, which was where she was raised. She currently works in the MacArthur Park Neighborhood part time at the Visitor Information Center at Curran Hall. We greatly appreciate her dedication and love of Little Rock.”
In advance of the tour, a special Preview Party will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Albert Pike Hotel Ballroom, 701 Scott Street. Tickets for this event are $35 per person in advance and $40 at the door.
This year’s houses span the decades and includes the Mills Davis House at 523 E. 6th Street, the Holtzman-Vinsonhaler House at 500 E. 9th Street, 1009 Rock Street, the Patrick Powers House at 1402 Commerce Street, the Bracy-Manning House at 620 E. 6th Street, and the Reichardt House at 1201 Welch Street.
The tour will feature a candlelight tour and dinner on Saturday evening, May 11 (business or cocktail attire). Tickets are $150 per person. The event includes a tour of the homes from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. It includes one special property, the Pollock-Mandlebaum House, only open on Saturday night with dinner to follow at the Arkansas Arts Center. Diners will have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction of several works and one commissioned piece by artist John Kushmaul, whose striking and popular paintings have chronicled Little Rock’s urban skylines and neighborhoods over a number of years.
Other activities include a Mother’s Day brunch at Curran Hall between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday May 12 ($60 per person; includes tickets to the Sunday afternoon tour).
“The Spring Tour of Homes is our oldest function and our largest event each year,” says QQA Executive Director Patricia Blick. Every Spring Tour is an opportunity to showcase and highlight an historic neighborhood, great properties, good preservation work, and bring approximately 1,000 people into an area some have previously never visited.”
On Saturday and Sunday complimentary trolleys will run along the route. The tour will also include entertainment.
