Out with the old, in with the new

We have come a long way since doing things in a traditional sense. From mobile shopping to telehealth appointments with physicians, we are officially in the age of advance technology. On one hand, I think it is great that information is one click away. But on the other, it is alarming how fast digital life moves; something so minuscule can get misinterpreted. However, whether we like it or not the internet is here to stay. And in the face of a pandemic, it has proven to be superior.

Someone who is benefitting from the likes of the internet is Brooke Moore, founder of MyVirtual.Laywer, a virtual website that provides affordable legal help to everyone. Not much changed for her in the wake of madness, but she did have to alter her course of action. “[MyVirtual.Lawyer] definitely took a hit because we had business clients and individuals who were unable to work with us due to job losses,” she said. Moore and co-owner, Laura O’Bryan found it more of a challenge since they had already been marketing their services remotely online. “It was hard to find ways to incentivize people to spend money,” she explained.

For Moore, it was also difficult with her children being home from school. Not only was she working, she was homeschooling too. “It was a fun yet interesting balance because I’m not used to necessarily having my kids here while I’m trying to work from home,” she said. Like myself, time-management has been key to surviving these hard days for Moore. “All of [MyVirtual.Lawyer] interactions are done online, so having to create a different system and schedule was hard for the team,” she said.

Even with the push-back of social distancing, MyVirtual.Lawyer has received a significant increase of awareness. “I feel like even though as difficult as it has been, we’re picking up momentum. I think that we positioned our services to be in a unique place after the pandemic,” said Moore. With accessibility being a crucial factor right now, Moore’s business is perfectly aligned to provide services health risk-free. And with a passion for law, Moore proclaimed she is excited to start helping more attorneys as we move into phase 2 of reopening Arkansas.

Information on COVID-19 continues to change every day and while things to seem to be uneasy, it’s important that we don’t get caught up in the disease of busyness, as Moore puts it. “As humans we say yes to everything, we are always busy. But this virus has given me the opportunity to stop and reprioritize what I want to do at home and what I want to do at work … reinvent myself,” she said.
