UA Little Rock hosts photo exhibit on Arkansas Delta by alum Beverly Buys

 

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will host a photography exhibit by alumna Beverly Buys featuring photos from the Arkansas Delta.

 

The exhibit, “Evocations From the Arkansas Delta, 2011-2021,” will be on display March 29 to April 23 in the Focus Gallery at the Windgate Center of Art and Design at UA Little Rock.

 

The images were created using the historical photographic printing process of cyanotype and are part of Buys’ “Delta in Blue” photo series. Buys graduated from UA Little Rock with a Master of Arts in photography in 1994. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in art education from Henderson State University and an MFA from the University of Memphis.

 

She worked as a professor of photography at Henderson State University from 1997 until her retirement in 2014 and served as director of the Russell Fine Arts Gallery at Henderson from 1997 to 2009.

 

Buys was awarded the Polly Wood Crews Scholarship by the Arkansas State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in 2016 and the 1998 Arkansas Arts Council Fellowship Award in Visual Arts. She has been included in state and national juried exhibitions and has shown her work in many one-person shows. She is represented by Justus Fine Arts Gallery in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

UA Little Rock’s Student Competitive Exhibit begins March 29

 

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s 2021 Student Competitive Exhibit will begin March 29 in the Brad Cushman Gallery in the Windgate Center of Art and Design.

 

The annual competition, which will be on display until April 12, features artwork created by students taking studio art and design classes in the UA Little Rock Department of Art and Design. Patrons may register for a virtual reception to be held at 5 p.m. April 9 via Zoom.

 

The artists whose work is on display include Carley Brown, Jessica Fuller, Rebekah Wilson, Annika Wade, Bailey Holley, Taylor McKinney, Daleesha Hood, Morgan Morrow, Rachel Stuckey, Concera Davis, Andrea Benbrook, Ashlee Stanley, Felecia Bearden, Sarah Lassiter, Caleb LaFevre, Reece Henderson, Andrew Chun, Hannah May, Logan Hunter, Courtney Wilson, and Yelena Petroukhina.

 

Works representing the variety of studio disciplines being taught at the university are considered for the exhibition, including: drawing and design, painting, printmaking, graphic design and illustration, photography, textiles, metals and furniture design, sculpture and ceramics.

 

Melissa Wilkinson, associate professor of art and painting at Arkansas State University, will serve as the juror/curator for the 2021 Student Competitive exhibition. She received her BFA in painting from Western Illinois University and her MFA from Southern Illinois University. Her work has been featured in three editions of New American Paintings. She received a grant for painting in 2012 and a “Woman to Watch” award in 2016 from the Arkansas Arts Council.

UA Little Rock’s BFA and Capstone Exhibition launches April 16

 

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s 2021 BFA and Capstone Exhibition will be on display in the Brad Cushman Gallery in the Windgate Center of Art and Design from April 16 to May 7.

 

This exhibition features work created by Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts students during their senior year of study. The BFA students work on a special project and produce a specific body of work around a specific theme.

 

Artists featured in the capstone exhibition include Olyvia Bolen, Emma Bowen, Rodney Bowie, Marissa Davis, Lauren Fuller, Colt Gatlin, Caleb LeFevre, Jonathan Nguy'n, Chloe Sebring. Landon Shaw, Ashlee Stanley, Axel Veliz, and Briana Wade.

 

Artists featured in the BFA exhibit include Olyvia Bolen, photography, Jonathan Nguyen, painting, Ashlee Stanley, painting, Olivia Blair, graphic design, Carley Brown, illustration, Tatiana Correa, illustration, and Madeline Hutson, illustration.
