Purple Cow moves to Conway

April 7-13, 2014

Little Rock’s original Purple Cow restaurant opened in 1989 on Cantrell Road. Businessman Ed Moore and Chef Paul Bash had a vision modeled after the 50s classically-styled diners, accented with a whimsical purple hue.

The first location was soon followed by a second, and in 2010 a location even opened in Hot Springs. This past week saw the opening of the newest location in Conway, Ark. located at The Village at Hendrix College.

Conway provides an ample collegiate population to take part in the infamous purple milkshake, as well as a family-oriented environment. The University of Central Arkansas’ color purple is in the namesake of the diner, while Hendrix and Central Baptist students are a mere stone’s throw away from the hub that the restaurant now occupies.

Located to the East of the Village Bookstore, the space takes up a totaled 4,100 square feet. The purple cow worked with Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects for the special design, while David Grundfest Company of Little Rock did the final touches for the interior. The nostalgic inside is coupled with a comfortable patio space for dining during nice weather.

In an article in the Log Cabin Democrat operating partner Philip Tappan told reporter Michelle Corbet about the space, “We wanted to create fun and whimsy … Dining out should be filled with entertainment and enchantment.”

Currently the restaurant does not have a liquor license, and thus the only thing missing from the menu is the famous adult milkshake. The idea behind the move was to see how the family-oriented town of Conway and clientele reacted to the choice. Changes could possibly be made in the future, but for now, the plan is to ease into the new setting.

Check out the restaurant to get a taste of the décor and burgers and shakes for yourself, yours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Find The Purple Cow on Facebook for updates and more information.
